400 VHF Transceivers being deployed for DGAMPA

DGAMPA, the Direction Générale des Affaires Maritimes, de la Pêche et de l’Aquaculture (General Directorate for Maritime Affairs, Fishery and Aquaculture) manages a wide range of maritime activities in France. The agency handles fisheries, aquaculture, seafarer welfare, and maritime safety operations; they also manage the staff of the captaincies of state ports.

In 2018, DGAMPA was searching for a provider for VHF transceivers as part of a GMDSS project. “It was important that these maritime transceivers have remote control and supervision functionality as well as compatibility with the ED137B standard, also respecting ITU standards, in particular ETSI EN and 301-929,” said Loïc GOURMELEN, Engineer for SAR and maritime traffic monitoring projects with DGAMPA.  “Reliability was also critical, with a high MTBF (mean time between failures).” After looking at several options, KENTA, a Nautel company, was selected as the vendor for the project.

400 VHF transceivers were contracted with KENTA; as of August 2025, 180 units have been delivered. Deployments to date include the south of France in the Mediterranean Sea; on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean, and in the French Caribbean islands.
